Fried Apple Pies
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup cold water
8 ounces dried apples
3 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
Instructions
Prepare pastry by mixing flour and salt; cut shortening into flour until size of small peas. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon water and toss with fork and push aside until dough is mixed. Roll into 1/8 inch thick and cut into 6 inch circles. Place 2 tablespoons apples (cooked about 45 minutes to an hour in three cups water; 1/2 cup sugar added after cooking.) Fry in heavy skillet (about 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep) in shortening at 375 degrees F. Fry 3 to 4 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towel. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
